CDDC PARKLET

GAY + HIGH STREETS PARKLET
This parklet, commissioned by the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation, is located on the Southwest corner of Gay + High streets in Downtown Columbus and serves multiple purposes in its prime location.
The primary objective of this parklet is to act as an observation deck for the newly installed Janet Echelman sculpture titled "Currents." Positioned strategically, it offers an ideal vantage point for visitors to appreciate and engage with the artwork. Additionally, the parklet serves as an amenity zone for the downtown area, providing a welcoming space for relaxation and social interaction.
The parklet comprises four modular units, carefully designed to ensure ease of deployment and mobility. Using a forklift, the modules can be loaded, transported, and stored effortlessly when not in use. This innovative design, featuring our patent-pending technology, was the first parklet to receive approval from Columbus's building and zoning services department. The successful collaboration between the city, the CDDC, Designing Local, and NK Design expedited the permitting, design, fabrication, and installation processes. The parklet was ready to be enjoyed by attendees of the Columbus Arts Festival, which commenced on June 9th, 2023.
We take great pride in contributing to the vibrancy and accessibility of the downtown area through this unique parklet system. Its versatility, mobility, and integration with the surrounding public art exemplify our commitment to innovative design and urban revitalization.
